Some 200 residents of Tafo, in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, mostly women, children and the aged, have benefitted from a health screening exercise organised by the Tafo Business Centre under the Mampong Area Branch of the ASA Savings and Loans Limited.

The health screening exercise, which has become a regular feature of the corporate social responsibility activities of the company across the country, according to the growing number of beneficiaries, is helping to deepen health awareness, especially among traders.

The latest exercise, according to Rev. Dr. Antwi Bosiako of the Christ Setoria Clinic in Kronum – the medical facility where the patrons were screened, led to the detection of three leading conditions. This includes high blood pressure, waist problems, as well as high cases of malaria.

He noted that this was common among traders, thereby, encouraging them to clean their surroundings to prevent mosquitoes from breeding, make time to periodically check their health status, follow the medication, as well as take time off their busy schedules to rest.

Dr. Bosiako said it is important for the traders to prioritise their health and that of their families.

He indicated that other tests conducted include ear, nose, and throat (ENT) examination, blood pressure, blood sugar, syphilis, and hepatitis B.

The Mampong Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Alexander Opoku Ayitey, said ‘health is wealth’ and therefore, ensuring the well-being of the customers and generally those within the host communities of ASA is a key concern.

It is for this reason, he explained, that ASA Savings and Loans dedicates part of its operating funds yearly to organise health screening exercises for existing and potential customers across the country.

Given this dedication, he entreated customers to always patronise the exercise which comes with the supply of free medication.

The Branch Manager of the Tafo Business Centre, Daniel Adey, said the participation of the customers and residents of Tafo was encouraging.

He was hopeful that they would take the advice of the medical team seriously, to be able to go about their businesses in good health.
