Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has launched a programme to provide staff with relevant skills and knowledge in modern banking principles and instill in them a rigorous operations and control culture.

The programme which is expected to run for three years is dubbed ‘CBG Operations Academy’, and it is in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) Ghana. The first batch of 50 staff started Monday May 9, 2022, immediately after the launch of the Academy.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Managing Director of Technology and Operations at CBG, Thairu Ndungu, said the initiative is designed to strategically position CBG to provide timely support to its esteemed customers due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the changing needs of customers.

“The COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years has changed perspectives and operating models for most organizations and CBG is no different. Customers are now demanding banking services anywhere and at any time. For our bank to rise to this changing landscape, we decided to focus on raising the skills of our Operations Staff, who are the pillars of providing our simple, secure, and differentiated banking services to our customers.

We began preparations in partnership with CIB to establish the Operations Academy in 2021 and we are happy that it’s kick-starting today. As we continue to grow to become the most trusted bank in Ghana and committed to providing support to the development of businesses in the Ghanaian economy with specific focus on SMEs, we will ensure to partner reputable institutions to enrich the knowledge, skills, and competencies of our Staff to improve our performance and enhance our ability to stay relevant in this rapidly changing environment,” he stated.

The Director of Human Capital & Transformation at CBG, Esi Mmirba Wilson, said the bank will continue to provide various learning paths for its Staff to develop themselves.

“We are excited to officially launch the second CBG Academy as part of our journey to become a learning organization. The Academy’s course content is designed to challenge, excite and inspire staff to continuously offer digitally driven solutions when providing our simple, secure and differentiated banking services to our customers especially our SME-Clients,” she said.

This is not the first time CBG is embarking on such a programme. In June 2021, CBG instituted the CBG Credit Risk Management Academy in partnership with Chartered Institute of Bankers, to strengthen credit risk culture for its employees as part of its customer outreach programme.

The new CBG Operations Academy programme is made up of three modules namely, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. In all, a total of 658 participants are expected to go through the foundation level. The remaining will join from either the intermediate or advanced level. Successful participants will be awarded Experts Certificate in Banking Operations.
