It was a thrilling night of Ghanaian music artistry that peaked anticipation for the main event of the 23rd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). The 2022 VGMA night was full of great innovations including, performances, stage designs, lighting, sound, social buzz, nominations, among others.
The concert, hosted at the Grand Arena Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 7, 2022, lasted for almost five hours; well-executed, detailed, precise and concise with almost non-existent technical hitches. This year’s event was a star-studded event in which many new artistes bagged awards to their credit due to the sacrifices made collaboratively to uplift eyebrows for the culture and entertainment in Ghana.
Nigeria’s Wizkid won the best African Artistes of the Year, Ghana’s Fameye won the Songwriter of the Year Award, and Black Sherif emerged as the winner of the Best New Artiste of the Year category.
The most sought-after award, the Artiste of the Year award, went to Lynx Entertainment’s signed artiste, KiDi, who emerged the best artiste after beating his competitors in the same category in the likes of King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Joe Mettle.
The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) was originally known by its non-sponsored name the Ghana Music Awards until 2013. This annual music awards event in Ghana was established in 1999 by a local event organiser and planner company known as CharterHouse, to originally and primarily celebrate the outstanding contributions of Ghanaian musicians to the growth and expansion of its associated industry.
