A delegation from the Chartered Institute of Financial & Investment Analysts, Ghana (CIFIAG) has paid a courtesy call on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), to among other things discuss ways to deepen collaboration between the Accra bourse and the Institute.

The visiting party comprised President of the Institute Dr. Daniel Amateye Anim-Prempeh; Registrar/Secretary to its governing council, Dr. Isaac Ntiamoah; Programmes Manager, Henry Ugah; and a Fellow of the Institute, Gloria Addison.

Dr. Anim-Prempeh commended management of the GSE for the plethora of initiatives it has rolled out, which have seen the Exchange ranked among the most innovative and best-performing on the continent.

“We are concerned with aggressively driving the agenda of finance and investment, and we know we cannot do that without a key stakeholder such as the stock exchange,” he noted.

Describing the capital market as the bedrock of the nation’s economy, Dr. Nitiamoah said the ever-evolving business landscape requires well-trained professionals who are competent in analysis, valuation, report writing and have a high ethical standard, to navigate unchartered waters.

“As our world gets more interconnected, risk has become an even bigger matter of concern. We must have professionals in organisations who are abreast with the times, and we must not wait for problems to emerge before we react to them; we must anticipate and be proactive in dealing with these things,” said the registrar of CIFIAG, which currently has more than 800 paid-up members.

He added that his outfit is eager to explore a variety of areas of shared interest with the Accra bourse, including organising joint training programmes as well as other platforms for public engagement on financial literacy.

On his part, Managing Director of the GSE, Ekow Afedzie, stated that the Exchange has as part of its core mandates the training of capital market participants and the wider public.

More than 60,000 persons have been directly trained by the Exchange, Mr. Afedzie said – indicating that his outfit is seeking to improve the quality of research-driven analysis by industry participants, even as it ramps up efforts aimed at improving financial literacy across the board.

“For us at the GSE, financial literacy is very important. We place a premium on accurate information required for investment decision-making, and it is one of our top priorities from the immediate term to the long-term,” he said, while indicating the Exchange’s openness to collaborate with other well-qualified persons and institutions to achieve its goal.

CIFIAG is a professional training institute targeting investment bankers, economic analysts, financial accountants, statisticians and other investment practitioners. It was Incorporated in 2011.
