Rotarians in Ghana have presented educational materials worth GH¢30,000 to schoolchildren at Appiatse in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region to enhance their education.

The items include textbooks on Science, Mathematics, English; note books, mathematical sets, and 200 hundred brand-new schoolbags as well as uniforms, among others.

At a brief ceremony, President Nominee (PN) of the Rotary Club of Tarkwa, Abdel Razak Yakubu, explained: “We heard about the incident that occurred a little over a month ago, and we have also heard about institutions which have supported in diverse ways and continue to support in terms of presenting relief items among others to the people of Appiatse.

“One thing we have not heard much about is support for children who survived this unfortunate incident; so, we thought it wise to support these children in their education – hence Rotary Clubs all over the country did a voluntary contribution totalling about GH¢30,000 and asked that we should buy these educational materials to support them,” he added.

Dr. Isaac Dasmani, Chief Executive Officer of Prestea Huni Valley Municipality who received the items explained that: “After the incident, there have been a lot of developments with regard to the kids; we realised that about 50 of these children had not stepped in a classroom before, and also over 200 of them were in various forms; so, we decided to rent a bus to convey them to school.

“These items that you have presented come to augment some of the things UNICEF donated for the schoolchildren. These items will be handed over to the Education Directorate to be given to the needy students to benefit their education,” he said.

Louis Dwomoh Afful, Deputy NADMO Coordinator in the Municipality, commended the Rotarians for their kind gesture and called for support from individuals, philanthropists and institutions.
