Spelling Bee: MultiChoice Staycation Reward For 2022 Top Speller

For the twelfth year running, Multichoice Ghana continues to be a major sponsor of  the annual National Spelling Bee competition organized by Young Educators Foundation.

This competition is a literacy programme that teaches primary school children between ages 7 and 13, how to improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn and understand word concepts and develop English usage which will help them all their lives.

Keeping with the tradition, MultiChoice Ghana rewarded the 2022 National Spelling Bee champion, N’Adom Darko-Asare (10 years), runners-up, Nii Odartey Elorm Manyo-Plange (10 years) and Aarna Bhaveshkumar Tailor (11 years) with DStv decoders and subscription to be used as a learning tool.

According to Managing Director, MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, “MultiChoice Ghana is committed to supporting ICT use in teaching and learning in Ghana at all levels. The Spelling Bee not only builds the vocabulary of these children but also equips them with a skill they will have for life.”

He added that parents can use the content on our learning channels like Mindset, Da Vinci Kids, Curiosity Stream, Discovery Family, Nat Geo etc. to augment the study material they get from school and we are happy to assist parents to identify the learning shows on these channels.

In addition, MultiChoice Ghana also gave spellers an opportunity to win an all-expenses paid staycation to a picturesque location in Ghana. As part of the prize, winners will visit places of interest and participate in minding stimulating activities during this trip. Mr. Okyere congratulated the winner of this year’s competition and wished her the best as she prepares to represent Ghana at the international event later this year.

The twelfth National finals started with 115 spellers  and was aired live on Citi TV; keenly watched by the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the American Ambassador to Ghana, the Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, sponsors and parents.

Over the past fourteen years, the Scripps Spelling Bee-franchised programme has been running in Ghana, and MultiChoice Ghana has partnered in the last twelve editions. The Spelling Bee has impacted over 30,000 students throughout the then 10 regional capitals of the country. The Spelling Bee (Ghana) is a literacy programme targeted at primary school children in Ghana.
