Following the completion of the Maternity Block for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (A flagship project by the MTN Ghana Foundation) in the year 2009, MTN committed to welcoming babies born on Christmas day each year with hampers made up of assorted items.
The hampers, which contain blankets, diapers, wipes, towels, shawls, bibs, toiletries, clothes among other baby essentials are presented as surprise packages to the mothers who receive them with joy and excitement.
Dubbed the ‘MTN Boxing Day Hamper Distribution’, the Foundation extended the offer to other hospitals and polyclinics in other regions over the years. By year 2020, MTN had covered all 16 regions of Ghana with a total of 120 Regional Hospitals and Polyclinics across the country as beneficiaries.
With 2021 being MTN’s 25th anniversary, the company distributed 500 hampers in all the 16 regions in selected hospitals across the country. Since the beginning of MTN ‘Boxing Day Hamper Distribution, over 1,500 mothers have received hampers worth GHC 406,000.00 from the Foundation.
The show of love by MTN Foundation has been driven through its Employee Volunteers who commit their Boxing Day celebration to put smiles on the faces of mothers and their babies.
The hampers for babies born on Christmas day has received commendation from the recipients as well as many Ghanaians. It is one of the many ways MTN Ghana Foundation has catered for the health needs of several individuals and medical institutions across Ghana.
