The platform comes in the form of a USSD code, a Google application and a website to spearhead the ‘1 Million Bins’ initiative. The 1 Million Bins Initiative is a social intervention project by Zoomlion to help improve the lives of Ghanaians by correcting poor sanitation practices and developing solid, seamless and efficient waste collection service delivery in Ghana.

Feedback so far indicates that most people are delighted and now practicing proper waste management lifestyles,” she said at the digital platform’s launch.

She said with the communal waste collection, which began with partnering the Metropolitan, Municipal District Assemblies (MMDAs), after some period it became known to them that it was not enough; therefore, the group made the decision to introduce the 1 Million Bins initiative.

Ms. larbi indicated that about 250,000 dustbins have been distributed so far, while believing that introducing the digital platform will speed up the process in a more efficient way.

The Chief Operating Officer of Jospong ICT Group, Samuel Ofori-Gyampoh, said that Zoomlion’s new cash-free waste service delivery that is powered by Nerasol is the first step in an impactful journey to move the Waste Management Sector from cash to electronic payments, and bring convenience to the doorsteps of Ghanaians.

He added that: “Starting today, any Ghanaian can digitally request for a bin in the 1Million Bins Initiative and conveniently pay for their trash collection service from the comfort of home – by simply dialling on any network, downloading the Zoomlion App on Google Play store and Apple Store”.
