Self-acclaimed ghetto youth president and reggae dance hall sensation, Kojo Kurankye, also known in showbiz as Ras Kuuku, last Saturday set Ahwerase Akuapem ablaze, keeping fans and music enthusiasts dancing through the night until morning to climax the two-week long Odwira Festival celebrations.
He got fans up on their toes all through energetic performance to climax the festival at the Ahwerasehene’s durbar grounds in the Eastern Region. With a never quenching energy, the reggae act performed hit song after hit song including ‘Ohemaa’, ‘Ye Tali Mu’, ‘Me Mpaebo’, ‘Jah Na Ebano’, ‘Mr. Government’, ‘Almighty’, and ‘Efa Woho Ben’, to the delight of fans.
The event made possible by the Strategic Planning Committee of Ahwerase, Okoman Radio and Aburi Eco Resort, saw hundreds of fans filled up the venue. In an interview with some fans of Ras Kuuku it was revealed that most of them travelled from Accra, Tema, Koforidua, and Cape Coast to show support to the reggae icon.
According to Nana Agyei Brenya, who doubles as Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee and Nmratehene of Ahwerase, this year’s Odwira Festival was purposely planned to involve the youth to take part in the development of the town and also to understand the traditions and culture of Ahwerase. “Ahwerase is definitely going to be another place to look up to as far as Odwira is concerned,” he added.
Nana Agyei further reiterated that a lot of planning has begun to bring investors to Ahwerase to help create job opportunities for the youth and also to foster peace among the people. Patrons were also thrilled by some rap sensations such as Arigenal, King Malbro, Kojo Dufie, Cashizz, Mr. Czar and Don Sky.
