Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) has handed over a health center to the Nsein community in the Nzema East District of the Western Region for effective health care delivery.
The company spent GH¢750,000 comprising cost of construction, furnishing and other ancillaries on the Nsein Community Health Center.
Lionel Barre, Managing Director of GREL in a speech read for him said: “we had a proposal from the Omanhene of Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II about the need for a health center and the impact we could make in line with our contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 3, which is ‘Ensure good health and well-being’.”
He is hopeful that health center will go a long way to reduce the pressure on the Axim Government Hospital by attending to primary healthcare needs of residents in communities and towns such as Nsein, Ayisakro, Ankyerin, Avrebo, students of Nsein SHS, Awukyire, Ndatiem, Ahunyame.
“Notwithstanding the ravages of COVID-19 on our business and industry, GREL has creditably discharged its commitment to our operational communities and other stakeholders, in line with our respect for and commitment to building stronger and mutual relationships with them,” he added.
According to him, GREL operate in over 90 communities in the Western, Central and Eastern Regions and create a strong relationship with its stakeholders for improved livelihoods of residents in the area.
He said the company has invested over €4million in the last 10 years in its Corporate Social Responsibilities in areas such as water systems, serving about 20,000 people in 14 communities, six health facilities including four community health centers as well as 16 communities have been provided with community centers.
On education, he mentioned that 36 infrastructures have been provided including school building, libraries, teachers’ bungalow among others.
“There is an annual vacation classes for 4,500 primary and JHS students where GREL pays tuition, learning materials and feeding; as at the end of June 2021, the company has provided scholarship to 283 students in its operational areas for secondary and tertiary levels among others,” he added.
Priscilla Ama Amoah, Nzema East Municipal Health Director said the facility, will take care of the primary health of the people in the area. She pointed out that universal health coverage is for all and urged the community members to use the NHIS card in accessing health care.
Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, Omanhene of Nsein Traditional Area, commended GREL for their continued support over the years. “The Health Center is for all of us, let us do our best to maintain to ensure it longer span,” he said.
