The Management of Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited led by the Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Akindele Ogunranti has heeded to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s call to corporate Ghana to support the National teams especially the Black Stars to embark favourably on the 2022 FIFA World cup qualifiers and next year’s AFCON Tournament.
In a short ceremony to present a cheque of Five hundred thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 500,000.00) to the Minister, Mr. Ogunranti noted that the Bank appreciates the role of sports in the development of the country and took the opportunity to show solidarity and support for sports in Ghana.
According to him, the youth are the future of a nation and so, every facet of their growth and development should be supported. He added that Zenith Bank has a culture of always investing in the development of the youth, therefore the support for the Black Stars is in tandem with the Bank’s commitment to empowering the youth. It is therefore the Bank’s hope that this will encourage the Black stars to bring glory to the motherland.
On his part, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif expressed his profound gratitude to Zenith Bank for contributing towards a worthy cause and assured the Bank of the judicious use of the amount to support football in Ghana.
He underscored the need to provide support to the youth not only in Ghana but the continent, by giving them the opportunity to provide change that is much needed on the African Continent.
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Okraku also expressed his appreciation to the Bank and said he had always anticipated a positive reaction from H.E the President’s clarion call for support to the Black Stars and such a gesture will go a long way to help the national teams. He recalled that Zenith Bank had provided support for the Black Stars in the past and noted that this donation is yet another confirmation of the Bank’s commitment to empower the team for success.
Others present at the ceremony were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Chief Accountant of the Ministry, Dr. Osman Tweneboah, The General Manager (Marketing), Zenith Bank, Mrs. Maebelle Nortey and the Company Secretary of the Bank, Mr. Daniel Agamah.
Zenith Bank’s donation is reflective of its commitment as a responsible corporate organization to support efforts of the government, the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Ghana Football Association in promoting Ghana’s sporting prowess in football.
