Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has presented the Hall of Fame Award to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Meridian Port Services Limited (MPS), Mohammed Samara at the 5th Ghana CEO Summit in Accra.
His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Bawumia has been spearheading the digitization agenda of the Government of Ghana to formalise and transform Ghana’s economy and further bring about inclusion with the goal of transforming Ghana to be the hub of digitization in West Africa.
The government’s many digital initiatives include the introduction of a Digital Property Addressing System, issuance of a National ID Card, the provision of banking services to every resident of Ghana through the innovative Mobile Payments Interoperability platform mobile money interoperability systems, the mobile application designed to make the purchase of electricity credits and the payment of bills more convenient for customers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the introduction of Zipline Technology, a medical drone program which is helping in healthcare delivery especially in the hard-to-reach communities of Ghana and introduction of a Paperless Port system which has reduced the turn-around times at the country’s ports and enhanced the ease of doing business and enhanced revenue collection.
His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Bawumia commended MPS for its role in supporting the digitalization of the Port of Tema in the well-known Paperless Port System in the Port of Tema.

On his part, Mr. Samara expressed gratitude to His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and appreciation to the Ghana CEO Network for the Hall of Fame Award.
Speaking after receiving the award, Mr Samara stated that “While this recognition is appreciated, it reminds me that there is indeed a higher responsibility that we owe the future generations. The goal at MPS has been to drive connectivity and to make trade flow easy, while at it, I strongly believe that port gateway development will have a ripple effect on the economy”.
The CEO of MPS went on to elaborate on how Ghana’s Job Engine will perform and the sectors that are likely to provide the bulk of the national jobs and poverty reduction “the Agriculture and Industry sectors of the economy are paramount and stand to benefit most from the efficient trade connectivity being developed by the recent investment in expanding and equipping Tema Port with the cutting-edge technology at Terminal 3” said Mr. Samara.
