MTN, the largest telecom provider in Ghana, has been adjudged ‘Business of the Decade’ at the just-ended Millennium Excellence Awards held in Kumasi, capital of the Ashanti Region.

This award was in recognition of MTN’s indescribable commitment to delivering ‘the best service in the telecom industry’.

“In the past decade, MTN has distinguished itself as the market leader and pacesetter in all aspects of communication services provision. It has been at the forefront of technology, digitisation and innovation.

“It has been the first to deliver a Data Centre, 4G, Momo and more, enabling it to stay miles ahead of the competition. The company has also been a leading taxpayer and employer. The MTN Foundation has also changed many lives with its series of CSR programmes. MTN also contributes immensely to sports development,” a citation in honour of the telecom giant read.

The Millennium Excellence Awards is one of the country’s most prestigious awards, held under the patronage of Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. It is held every 5 years and honours the best institutions and individuals in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy for their varied contributions to national development.

More than 1,650 individuals and organisations were nominated in 35 categories for this edition.

Speaking at the programme that saw a cross-section of individuals and organisations with varied backgrounds being honoured, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene said: “The Foundation is helping to inspire new generations to strive harder for excellence. That is worthy of every effort”.

On his part, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo extolled the winners for their untiring desire in pursuit of their goals. “The Foundation understands that neither these glass mementos they take home today nor the panache of this event is commensurate with the honour the laureates deserve. But by recognising them here today, we all ought to be reminded that no goal is beyond our reach if our determination to succeed is relentless,” he stated.
