Rotary Club of Accra La- East provides new bus shelter for LaDMA

The Rotary Club of Accra La- East has commissioned a new bus shelter at the La Palm Wine junction bus stop on the Trade Fair Road.

The modern bus shelter, which cost GH¢12,000 to construct, was conceptualized and designed by Percy Sackey, an architect and a member of the Club.

President of the Club, Patience Kwapong, said the provision of the bus shelter was in fulfilment of Rotary’s 6 areas of focus especially Economic and community development.

She noted that the gesture represented the commitment of the Club towards serving its community and the nation as a whole and assured that this would not be the end of good things to come.

She noted that the innovative design of the shelter would ensure easy access for commuters as well as protect users from the elements of the weather adding that, “Rotarians of Accra La-East have consistently made a difference in their communities through numerous projects including a commitment to end polio among children.”

Ms. Kwapong said she was hopeful that more of such shelters would be constructed in other communities with the support of the Municipal Assemblies.

She said the club, few weeks ago launched a national eye screening project at the total cost of 100, 000 USD, aimed at screening and treating children ages zero to five for all kinds of eye diseases. The project, which is being done for free for all children across the country, is under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Accra –La East District 9102, Rotary Club of Detmold Blumberg in Germany and Rotary International in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical School.

Municipal Coordinating Director of La Dadekotokpon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Mr. Daniel Nkrumah, who was the special guest expressed his appreciation to the Club for the construction of the bus shelter which according to him would provide shelter for commuters at all times.

“We are thankful to Rotary Club of Accra La East for this bus shelter, and we expect that people will use it profitably and whatever they come to do here would be for the good of the community”

He assured the club that, the assembly will collaborate with them and engage other stakeholders to ensure good maintenance culture and protection for the bus shelter at all times in order to serve its purpose.
