The Coca-Cola Bottling Company Limited. as part of its commitment to donate 10 pesewas of every single 1.5-litre Coca-Cola bottle to support the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, has so far donated GH¢745,955.
The company made its first donation of GH¢113,430 on November 1, 2020 – followed by a GH¢258,526 donation on February 2.
And on Tuesday it made a donation of GH¢373,999 to the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, bringing the total to GH¢745,955.
According to Managing Director for West African Countries Business Unit, Felis Gomis, the commitment was expected to end in June 2021 but has been extended to December 2021.
He said COVID-19 is not yet over, and to appreciate the effort of stakeholders taking up the challenge they decided to join hands together.
“The reason for our extension is simple; we believe that we are not yet over with this COVID-19 and no one knows when it will be getting to a better situation. We are seeing new variants day by day, and so we believe that we need to continue joining our efforts,” he said.
Managing Trustee for the COVID-19 Private Sector Fund, Senyo Hosi, said this is the company’s third contribution to the Fund. To him, extending the support to December is a good idea because the facility will require certain maintenance, as it continues to remain the centre that hosts most of the critical COVID-19 cases.
He added that the support from Coca-Cola remains fundamental to sustaining the services provided by the Ghana Infectious Disease Centre (GIDC), especially with the presence of a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
