MTN Ghana Limited, as a means of showing solidarity with the Muslim community, has donated several items to the National Chief Imam in commemoration of this year’s (Eidul Fitr), or the end of Ramadan.
The management team from MTN, led by its Senior Manager for Customer Relations and Credit Management, Salihu Abu, stated that the outbreak of COVID-19 has changed the dynamics of Eidul Fitr traditions and celebrations all over the world since last year; affecting all religious gatherings and activities in one shape or form.
However, MTN Ghana is thankful to Allah for giving life to its staff, customers, Muslim brethren and most Ghanaians in general – though some lives were lost to the pandemic.
“This is certainly different to the Eid celebrations we have experienced and were accustomed to in the past. Despite all these changes, Eid remains the time of giving thanks for all the blessings in our lives, focusing on the sunnahs we can fulfil, and reach out to those facing greater challenges.
“We are here today to extend our warmest regards and most sincere wishes from the Management and staff of MTN to you for the relationship we have enjoyed with the Muslim Community over the years,” he said.
He further congratulated the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, on turning 102-years recently; and asked for Allah’s blessings to continue overshadowing and sustaining him for many more years.
MTN, as part of the visit, donated the following items to the Chief Imam; GH¢5,000, 15 bags of rice, 10 cartons of vegetable oil, five bags of sugar, 40 packs of bottled mineral water, 28 packs of soft drinks, five cartons of milo, a Ram, 500 face-shields and airtime worth GH¢500.
Mr. Abu indicated that in addition to the above donation, MTN is also donating to the regional Chief Imams in Tamale, Takoradi, and Kumasi. “MTN Ghana will also donate food items to Muslim families in Nima, Maamobi, Fadama, Ashaiman, Kosoa, Koforidua Zongo, Asawase, Aboabo, Sawaba, Moshie Zongo and Akwatia line,” he emphasised.
National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to MTN Ghana for their immense support to the Muslim community over the years. he also prayed Allah to bless them abundantly according to his promise that he will bless and make a cheerful giver great.
MTN also took the opportunity to encourage the Muslim community, as well as everyone living in Ghana, to continue observing the COVID-19 guidelines by wearing their facemasks where necessary, continue washing and sanitising their hands regularly, and also keep practicing social distancing.
