The West African Insurance Companies Association – the umbrella-body of all Anglophone West African insurance companies – will be hosting a virtual seminar.

This is a one-day forum slated for Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 10:30am. It is aimed at keeping insurers abreast of topical issues on the African Continental Free Trade Area as well as addressing issues, questions and complaints insurers may have.

William Coker, Secretary General of WAICA, told B&FT that there will be two paper-presentations. The first paper will be on: The AFCFTA protocols and how they impinge on provision of insurance services across borders. While the second paper will touch on Positioning the insurance industry in West Africa to take advantage of AFCFTA.

A crack team of resource persons have been assembled for the two papers, Coker told the B&FT. He further explained that for paper-one the resource persons include Mr. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General/CEO-AFCFTA; and Mrs. Emily Njeri Mburu-Ndoria, Director of Trade in Service-AFCFTA.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tawiah Ben-Ahmed-President, Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana, will handle the second paper on positioning the insurance industry in west Africa to take advantage of AFCFTA.

Coker urged interested practitioners to indicate their interest so that the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) to Zoom the meeting will be communicated to them. It should be noted that this is the second virtual seminar WAICA is holding after the lockdown in 2020.
