The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of some 401 candidates who participated in the private West Africa Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) 2020.

According to WAEC, the entire results of the aforementioned candidates were withheld on account of suspected involvement in examination malpractices including impersonation, collusion among candidates, bringing foreign materials and mobile phones into the examination hall. “The withheld result will be released or cancelled as soon as the council concludes its investigations,” WAEC stated.

The statement indicated that some 3,688 absenteeism cases were recorded out of the total 51,914 candidates made up of 24,649 males and 27,265 females who sat for the examination.

The Council cautioned the general public to be wary of persons who pose as representatives of the council with the capability of changing or upgrading results at a fee.

“We wish to assure all stakeholders that the Council’s results database is well secured; as such, all forged results can be detected by the confirmation/verification system that has been made available to institutions and organisations,” indicated the statement signed by Public Affairs Head-WEAC, Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe.

The Council is therefore advising various educational institutions and organisations to access the confirmation or verification services online through the WEAC website or by scanning the encrypted QR code on the print-out.
