The National Insurance Commission (NIC) has announced the new GIC Advanced Diploma as the eligible qualification for Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (ACIIG) designation.

Michael Kofi Andoh, Deputy Commissioner-NIC, made this pronouncement in Accra two weeks ago. He pointed out that the Commission in consultation with Ghana Insurance Association (GIA), Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG) has recognised the new designation from this year.

According to him, holders of this qualification will therefore be accepted as Principal Officers or Chief Executive Officers by the Commission. Furthermore, the Commission has also taken a decision to prioritise the payment of fees of staff to the CIIG over foreign institutes.

“The Commission has further encouraged industry players to do same for their staff and also register as corporate members of the institute; as an industry, we need to strengthen and bring high recognition to our very own,” Andoh re-echoed.

He said Ghana can best be developed by Ghanaian insurance professionals trained for the Ghanaian insurance market.

In another development the new CIIG president has appointed two insurance professionals; Solomon Awuku, Chief Executive Officer of ACE Medical Insurance; and Mr. Obiri, Chief Executive Officer of United Pension Trust, as ambassadors of CIIG in other insurance-related companies of the country.
