Autochek enters car market with app to curb fraud

Autochek Ghana, a technology platform that allows the buying and selling of cars, has launched an application to improve how automobiles are bought and sold in Ghana and Africa. The company, which acquired Cheki Ghana last year, aims to build on the solid work that the Cheki team has done over the last 10 years.

Launching the app under the theme: ‘the Autochek Immersion Experience’, the Human Resource and Business Compliance Manager of the company, Yvonne Ahlie, demonstrated how the app works.

“One interesting thing about our app is that, it is geo-sensitive to location so if you are in Ghana, it will take you to the Ghana page and if you are in Nigeria it takes you to the Nigeria page,” she said.

CEO of Autochek Africa, Etop Ikpe said the Africa is a good place to launch such a product to help reduce difficulties faced by people who wish to purchase their own cars.

“We must be able to harness opportunities through the use of technology and that is we will do to bring transparency to the industry. We are still very far from where we need to be and this brings me to recognise the role technology is playing in today’s Africa,” he said.

Market challenges

Highlighting some key challenges in the automotive industry, Mr Etop mentioned the absence of standardised pricing, lack of standardised after sales support, lack of credit options, and the absence of one-stop shop for car insurance registration.

The Autochek Ecosystem

He also touched on what he called the Autocheck Ecosystem which serves as a one-stop solutions centre to the automotive industry. Services include inspection and grading, after sales (repair and maintenance service network, spare parts), logistics (vehicles haulage ecosystem).

The event also brought together representatives from insurance companies, banks, car dealers associations, mechanic association of Ghana, chiefs and other officials.

The ambassador for Autochek Africa, Richard Mofe-Damijo known as RMD urged all gathered to embrace the ideas of Autochek Africa .
