The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has gone digital with activation of the short code *890# to enable clients to stake lotto from the comfort of their homes amidst Covid-19 lockdown.
The initiative is aimed at mitigating the shortfall in sales of the organization due to the temporary lockdown of some parts of the country as a result of measures to control the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
Head of Public Relations Unit, NLA, Razak Kojo Opoku, in a press statement explained that due to the partial lockdown in some areas, Lotto Marketing Companies (LMCs) are unable to sale to their staking public, a situation necessitating that a digital medium be introduced.
“The Restrictions on Movement (Partial Lockdown) in the Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi and Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly (Kasoa) have immensely reduced the sales of the Authority.
To mitigate the shortfall of sales, the Authority has activated its Official Short Code *890# to give opportunity to the staking public to play 5/90 and VAG Lotto Games via MTN, Vodafone and AirtelTigo,” he said.
It is said that the NLA Official Short Code *890# would help to ensure the survival of the Authority in these difficult moments of COVID-19 pandemic.
The NLA noted that, in this period of the Coronavirus pandemic, a measure such as the digital staking medium will not only help to boost the revenue of the authority but ensure that the public is adhering to the social distancing directive of the government.
The NLA is doing everything possible to sustain the sales force of the Authority while at the same time limiting physical human body contacts, the statement said.
The statement called on Ghanaians to Stay Home, Stay Safe and Stop the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, as they dial the NLA Official Short Code *890# and play 5/90 and VAG Lotto Games with enhanced prize structure of 240 via MTN, Vodafone and AirtelTigo.
