Activa International Insurance Company Limited and the Activa Foundation have donated a number of Personal Protective Equipment to the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The presentation was made by a high-powered management team led by Mr. Steve Kyerematen, Vice –President of the Company, Mr. Benjamin Yamoah, the Acting Managing Director, and Mrs. Genevieve Tachie the Deputy Managing Director.

Presenting the items, Mr.  Kyerematen said Activa International Insurance and Activa Foundation have a long-lasting relationship with the National Cardio Centre, spanning over 10 years.

He pointed out that, at this crucial time when the Cardio Centre is under pressure handling COVID-19 cases, it is expected that more resources would be diverted from their normal operations to fight COVID-19. It is against this background that Activa has presented these items to compliment what the Government is doing to manage the pandemic.

The Acting Managing Director of Activa International Insurance, Mr.  Yamoah, on his part, said, his company recalls the existing relationship with the Cardio Centre, culminating in the previous donations of laptops to the Cardio Centre as part of Activa’s corporate social responsibility. He continued that the Cardio Centre, at this time of COVID-19 remains one of the many front liners because COVID-19 is related to lungs and heart. Mr. Yamoah added that, the Ghana government has instituted a solid framework to manage the pandemic locally which has resulted in some recoveries, yet, the situation calls for all hands-on-deck.

“Our presentation which included: Face Masks, Medical Scrubs, Hospital Gowns and Head Covers, are intended to assist the frontline health workers at the Cardio Center in their efforts to fight against COVID-19 pandemic”, the Acting MD of Activa concluded.

Receiving the items, the Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr. Lawrence Sereboe, expressed gratitude to Activa International Insurance Company and Activa Foundation for their kind and timely gesture. He said, a lot of their resources have been channeled to the COVID-19 fight so he was very happy to receive the PPEs from Activa. He noted that a lot of people, including patients are refusing to visit the Centre because of the virus. He called on other institutions to emulate the shinning example from Activa and assured the public that they had put adequate safety measures in place at the Centre.

Dr. Sereboe was supported by Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Mrs. Grace Quarcoo to receive the items on behalf of management, staff and patients of the National Cardio Centre.
