Founder and Director of the Universal Wonderful Street Academy (UWSA) has said the COVID-19 pandemic has presented further opportunities to make right investments into children who are underprivileged.
The Director, Louis Yeboah Wonder Doe, who also doubles as the Noryaa Manste (Developmental Chief) of Mantse Ankrah Royal Family of Otublohum with the Royal Name Nii Kwanchi II, is optimistic that the decision to still keep the UWSA open to the children, while keeping to the COVID-19 safety protocols would help the children to take their lessons seriously.
“Within the pandemic, some men are taking advantage of the female children and so we have decided to keep the children busy with their books and allow them to come to the school to still study, albeit, following the COVID-19 protocols of regular handwashing, wearing of nose mask and social distancing,” he said.
The academy, as part of plans to also keep the children busy within this period, has been organizing computer lesson for the children with each child being offered a laptop computer to assist them in their studies. He asked other philanthropists to contribute to the wellbeing of children who in this period, are struggling to cope and to survive.
On the upcoming elections, Nii Kwanchi II advised parents in Ghana not to encourage their children to get involved in any political activities that would endanger their lives.
On behalf of the UWSA, Nii Kwanchi II, eulogizes the virtues and the demise of Former President Rawlings, adding, “management and children of the academy wish to extend our sincerest condolence to the bereaved family and the entire Ghana for the great loss”.
The UWSA is a non-governmental organization based in Jamestown in Accra. The academy provides free tuition in basic arithmetic, English, vocational education, African drumming and dancing and social studies to over 200 underprivileged children in the area.
