The Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana, the educational arm of all insurance professionals in the country has announced the hosting of a credible industry award scheme which has eluded them for several years on November 28, 2020 at the Labadi beach hotel in Accra.
Lydia Lariba Bawa, the immediate past Commissioner of Insurance Ghana and presently Chairman of the Awards Committee of the CIIG pronounced this at the fourth Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Conference of the CIIG at the University of Ghana Business School, Legon in Accra a fortnight ago.
Following a presentation to participants to the AGM, David Avor – Secretary to the CIIG said previous attempt to host an awards night by the insurance industry has failed due to lack of requisite industry knowledge coupled with lack of credibility with the main aim of profit motives by previous organizers.
According to him, the CIIG is now strategically positioned to answer the call just like other sister professional bodies such as: The Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) and Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG).
In view of that the CIIG started work on these awards programme in the first quarter of 2019 in collaboration with National Insurance Commission (NIC), The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), The Ghana Insurance College (GIC) and Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG).
Work on the awards started immediately with the support of the CIIG council, an award committee was also floated in addition to an awards panel with assistance from KPMG and an events management company – E-volution was appointed.
The following categories of awards were then decided upon. The categories included; Claims Professional of the Year; Professional Underwriter of the Year; Risk Management Professional of the Year; Young Professional of the Year; Insurance Professional of the Year and Life Time Achievement / Honorary Awards.
These awards are to be grabbed by individual professionals explained Avor. He explained further that company awards include; Life Insurance Company of the Year; General Insurance Company of the Year; Insurance Broker of the Year – General Business; Insurance Broker of the Year – Life; Reinsurance Company of the Year and Reinsurance Broker of the Year.
The rest categories are; Service / Gross Adjusting Firm of the Year; CSR Company of the Year; Insurance Product of the Year; Life; Insurance Product of the year General and IT Innovative Company of the Year. Others include: Insurance Reporter of the Year and Insurance Media House of the Year.
He explained further that processes for entry has opened from the first week and said deadline for submission will be 3rdweek of October. From the 4th week of October evaluation of entries will begin whilst intensive public city begins from second week of November.
He called for sponsorship and admitted that only T of the organization, NIC, Metlife and Ghana Reinsurance Company (Ghana Re) as so far donated.
