A few weeks ago, Billboard released a list of artistes across eleven African countries whose content on YouTube gained a lot of views in 2019. The list dubbed “The most-watched homegrown artists across Africa” sought to unearth the top five artistes in 2019. For Ghana, the leading artiste was Shatta Wale who led the list with 13.26 million views.
After the release of the much anticipated Reggae album ‘Tropical Cruises to Jamaica’ recently, Shatta Wale become the first and currently only Ghanaian musician to be featured on the famous advert boards at the New York Times Square. In just 24 hours after being listed for pre-order on Amazon, ‘Tropical Cruises to Jamaica’ headlined by Shatta Wale, made history by hitting number one for bestselling Reggae album, an enviable record.
The 25 track album is produced by Contractor Music Group from Jamaica and features top selling global superstars from Jamaica including Capleton, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Elephant Man, Don Yute, Mojo Morgan, Wayne Wonder, Singing Melody, Peetah Morgan, Tommy Lee Sparta, Skillibeng, Voicemail and Royce Da59.
On the release of the album in June 2020, an elated Sean ‘Contractor’ Edwards, the Executive Producer recounted the great feedback the team had received from music lovers around the world and how Shatta Wale’s song on the album titled “Dream” was trending all over.
