The pensions industry, led by the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA), has donated a cheque for GH₵215,000 to the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

The funds were raised by the NPRA and seven private corporate trustees including: Axis Pension Trust; Petra Trust; Enterprise Trustees; General Trust Company; United Pension Trustees; Pensions Alliance Trust; and Secure Pension Trust.

“We at the NPRA do very much appreciate the proactiveness and decisive response by the government of Ghana in dealing with the pandemic, which includes setting up the COVID-19 National Trust Fund.

“To this end, the Authority is leading trustees in the industry to make a presentation of our widow’s mute of GH₵215,000 to support government’s efforts in fighting the pandemic,” NPRA Chief Executive Officer, Hayford Atta Krufi, said during the presentation.

He noted that the industry is ready to cooperate with government to find other means of supporting affected workers and pensioners in these trying times.

Mr. Krufi added: “The plight of Ghanaian pensioners continues to worsen, especially under this era of COVID-19 pandemic; and we as an Authority plead with corporate institutions and other well to do individuals to support vulnerable pensioners in the country”.

Receiving the cheque, Chairperson of the COVID-19 National Trust Fund, Justice Sophia Akuffo, thanked NPRA and the pensions industry as a whole for coming on board to support the Fund, adding that the efforts will go a long way to help government fight the pandemic.
