The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) has donated GH¢100,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund to help the nation’s effort to fight the outbreak of the disease. The donation was made in a short ceremony at Jubilee House and received by head of the Trust Fund, Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.
Head of Marketing and Public Relations at the GSE, Diana Okine, said even though the GSE is a nonprofit making organization, the decision to support the fund was a call the company could not turn its back on. According to her, the GSE sees it as an obligation to support a national fight that will result in betterment of health for the populace who they engage every day.
“This is a pandemic that affects everybody and our clientele is made up of the Ghanaian populace; so, if the population is healthy it means that we will have a good environment and we will have happy investors. The GSE, although a nonprofit making organization, is a public company limited by guarantee; and therefore we are in this fight like anybody else, and we also see it as prudent for us to help government’s goal of making Ghana a healthy country by curbing this pandemic,” Mrs. Okine said.
Receiving the donation, Ms. Akuffo commended the GSE for the effort and assured them that the money will touch the lives of the vulnerable and ensure a better health system for the nation.
“There is an impression that the GSE is a money-making, money-spinning institution that is only interested in rich people who have money to invest. This will go a long way to dispel that impression people have. We are most grateful to the management, we are most grateful to the organization itself,” said Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo.
