Eagles Properties has presented a cheque for GH¢25, 000 to support the Laboratory of the Sekondi-Takoradi Veterinary Service Department.
The presentation is in response to an appeal made by the Western Regional Coordinating Council to some institutions in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on the need to support repair works at the laboratory which can be used for testing of COVID-19 samples.
It would be recalled that President Nana Akufo-Addo announced on Sunday that “we are making significant improvements at laboratories at the Veterinary Services across the country to ensure we have a minimum situation of one testing center per region,” and Sekondi-Takoradi Veterinary Service Department is one of them.
Emmanuella Kwofie, Human Resource Manager of Eagles Properties presenting the cheque explained that “we are supporting to kick out this pandemic for us to go back to our normal lives; everything has come to a standstill. Although it is an appeal, we were also looking for ways to support in the fight against this virus and this is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss,” she said.
She noted that businesses within the metropolis is not encouraging due to COVID-19. “We are not getting the business that we need individuals and companies are also not getting businesses to give us some. We hope this amount will help in preparing the lab. at the Veterinary Department,” she added.
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Western Regional Minister who received the cheque urged other institutions to support repair works at the lab. for it to be in-use as soon as possible.
“We believe that one of the key ingredient in tackling this disease is testing; if we are able to test as quickly as possible, we can isolate early and start the treatment,” he said.
Dr. Simon Gbene, Western Regional Veterinary Officer mentioned that repair works need to be done at the lab and thereafter, testing can commence. He encouraged other organizations operating within the metropolis to support in this direction since government cannot shoulder all the responsibilities.
