Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Western and Central regions are expected to have their financials probed from the 2015-2016 Auditor-General’s report later on Monday when the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) continues its regional sittings.

The public engagements in Takoradi, with support from USAID and GIZ will see the Committee members query some heads of second cycle institutions and district assemblies over financial infractions in the 2015 and 2016 Auditor General’s report.

“This is the usual PAC public hearing, for this meeting in Takoradi, it is covering Central region and Western region, we are going to look at five reports.

There are 2015 Auditor General’s report for Polytechnics or Technical Universities and after that we move to MMDAs, for their public accounts,[we are not dealing with the District Assemblies Common Fund, it is public accounts; it basically talk about their IGF and any other funds that they have, with the exception of Common Fund].

We are dealing with 2015 and 2016 reports for this MMDAs, the other reports covers pre tertiary educational institutions; we are talking about the secondary schools, so all secondary schools in the Western and Central regions will appear before” Chairman of  PAC, James Klutse Avedzi told B&FT in an interview ahead of the engagement later this morning on Monday.

PAC has already carried out similar hearings in five regions, including Northern region, Upper East, Upper West, Brong Ahafo, and Ashanti regions.

Next up for the public hearing will be in Accra where they will continue with the remaining three regions.
