A new mining office complex, estimated at US$ 233,770.00, was inaugurated at the premises of the AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine in Tarkwa on Wednesday 18, April 2018. The ultra-modern office complex was commissioned by the Senior Vice President – Continental Africa Region, Sicelo Ntuli and the plaque unveiled by the Chief Operating Officer International of AngloGold Ashanti Limited, Ludwig Eybers.
The office complex has some few additions, including a bigger working area to accommodate all the employees of the various sections of the mining, is user friendly and depicts a modern office and working space. It is also expected to deliver quality results for the day to day operations of the mining department.
The construction of the new office block was necessitated following the deplorable state of the old mining office which made it unsafe for occupancy. The newly commissioned mining block used to house the old mining office whose base was made of wood and used for twenty-five years. From 1997-2004, it was left to the mercy of the weather and later underwent refurbishment although it started to deteriorate from 2013-2015, necessitating the need for the construction of a new complex.
Consecrating the building, Area Head of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Samuel Antwi prayed for management of the mine for running mine operations safely. He called on occupants of the facility to maintain it to serve its intended purpose.
“As this building is handed over, let us do our best as individuals and employees to be committed in handling it well for more generations to benefit from it,” he said.
Mr. Sicelo Ntuli emphasised that the edifice is of importance to the mine and all employees of the company are grateful to the Engineering team for their commitment to duty to construct and deliver on schedule such a magnificent facility.
Mr. Ludwig Eybers noted that the facility will benefit the municipality even after life of mine and expressed appreciation to the mine for the initiative.
Commenting on the project benefits to the host communities and Tarkwa municipality, the Gyaasehene of Apinto Stool, Nana Adarkwa Bediako III and the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Gilbert Kennedy Asmah added their voice in congratulating the mine for the various sustainable projects and interventions handed over to its host communities. They called on the mine to expand their scope in recruiting more of host community members to work on the mine in the area of community development and mine support services.
The inauguration was attended by the mine’s business partners, the clergy, traditional leaders, regulators and employees who inspected various offices of the building.
