The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) has cautioned encroachers and other settlers engaging in businesses and other human activities beneath and near the company’s distribution lines and other facilities around the country.

“Notable among such activities are vehicle selling points (garages), food joints and table-top selling points, contrary to the provision of the Lands (Statutory Wayleaves) Act, 1963, (Act 186),” a public notice issued by ECG and published in the B&FT stated.

It further said: “These activities interfere with our operations and pose great danger to both human lives and properties, should any of the distribution lines drop, or our facilities develop a fault.”

The company has therefore admonished all offending individuals to vacate the unauthorised areas with “immediate effect”, calling on the relevant city authorities to help deal with the situation.
