Senior Vice President and World Bank Group General Counsel Sandie Okoro’s four-day mission to Ghana enabled her to understand how World Bank-financed programmes and projects are working on the ground.

In relation to the above, Madam Okoro visited the Climate Innovation Centre at the Ashesi University campus on March 22 to interact with beneficiaries of the project and discuss dividends they have reaped from it.

Sandie told journalists her visit to the climate innovation centre (GCIC) hugely impressed her and was way beyond her expectations. Meeting the entrepreneurs and learning of their products in green business initiatives – which are hugely innovative – was fantastic, she stated.

Madam Okoro also lauded the amazing closed session she had with women entrepreneurs at GCIC and learning of their successes – noting that women by their nature are close to the earth and going green and being close to nature is especially peculiar to their nature.

She was generally impressed with the fact that the business accelerator programme and green business incubation at the GCIC prepared the entrepreneurs for sustainable businesses, which is the most important aspect of the incubation.

The mission also afforded her an opportunity to learn how the Bank’s recently decentralised legal services are working, and how they can better support the government’s Banks programme.

In Ghana, she paid courtesy calls on Attorney General and Minister of Justice Gloria Akuffo, and Her Ladyship Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, to discuss Agile strategies the Bank and government can employ in Ghana and learn about the justice sector’s accomplishments and challenges.

Ms. Okoro also participated in roundtable discussions on The Political Economy Landscape-Ghana@61: Reflections on Democracy and Development, and Gender Based Violence and Law Reforms.

She has since left for Liberia, accompanied by Chief Counsel of the World Bank’s Africa Region Sheila Braka Musiime.  Sandie Okoro arrived in Ghana on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
