Somoco Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Mohinani Group, in partnership with Indian manufacturer of Motorbike, Bajaj, has introduced two new bikes on the Ghanaian market.
The Pulsar 220 and the Discover 125 motorcycles, that were launched in Accra, is designed to thrill users, with high-end technology to meet aspirations of the youth.
The Pulsar is a 220 CC motorcycle delivering 21 PS at 8,500 RPM and a torque of 19 Nm at 7,000 RPM. The four-stroke, single cylinder engine is twin spark and both air and oil cooled, with a five-speed gear box and precise gear shifting for comfortable riding experience. It also comes with front and rear disc brakes and adjustable Nitrox rear shock absorber to provide ultimate balance with comfort.
Among other features of the Discover is that, it is crafted with progressive styling and attractive decals. It is powered by 125 CC, single cylinder, a four-stroke twin spark engine, and delivers 11 PS power at 8,000 RPM and 10.8 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm.
The two, Pulsar, and Discover are on introductory sale at GH₵8,500, and GH₵3,850 respectively.
Speaking at the launch, Vinay K. Chaturvedi, Business Head of Somoco Ghana said: “After seeing the aspiration of Ghanaian youth, especially in the sports category of vehicles, we have decided to bring our two exciting products.”
He also assured that the company will intensify training for personnel who are tasked to occasionally service these vehicles effectively to offer excellent after-sales-service to customers.
In his address at the event, DSP Alexander Kweku Obeng from the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, recommended that as part of efforts to curb motorbike-related accidents on the roads, motorcycle dealers should include two crash helmets as part of the package during sale.
He also encouraged dealers to occasionally, as a corporate social responsibility, train users of motorbikes, on the proper use of the machine reduce fatalities and increase knowledge in the area.
“As corporate entities that are in to support the state, you must all that time come up with additional services that will support other stakeholders to continuously enhance the capacity of your clients,” he said.

Somoco Ghana Limited was established in 2013, as the sole authorized distributor for Bajaj Auto Limited in Ghana.
