All-women crew fly to Accra and Abidjan today- Brussels Airlines

To celebrate this year’s, celebrate International Women’s Day, an international airline on the Abidjan – Accra – Brussels route, Brussels Airlines will today operate an all-women crew flight.

Today’s flight is a symbolic action to strive for more equality for women and also being done because Women’s Day is widely celebrated here in Ghana.

What makes the flight SN289 even more exciting is the fact that its comes with a 100% female crew to Abidjan (Ivory Coast) and to Accra (Ghana), where both the Brussels Airlines Country Manager and Station Manager are women.

According to a statement copied to the B&FT, the cockpit will be manned by Captain Daniela and First Officer Marie.

Cabin serviced will also be managed by Veronique, Patty, Xandra, Isabelle, Maité, Ingrid, Caroline and Peggy.

The all women flight to the two West African neighbors is to show the commitment of the airline in helping to strive for a more gender-inclusive world in West Africa and the continent that the airline considers its second home.

Commenting on the move, – Rita Macedo, Country Manager Brussels Airlines in Ghana said, “it is very important to us that Brussels Airlines contributes to the International Women’s Day with this symbolic flight. Especially here in Africa, where women play an ever more significant role in pushing the continent forward.”

With female co-workers on all levels and in every department, including HR, Marketing, Ground Operations, Aircraft Maintenance, Cabin Crew and support services, the majority of Brussels Airlines’ workforce is female (51.6%).

At 10%, the airline’s percentage of female pilots is one of the highest in the aviation industry, where the global average is just over 3%.

It will be noted that, Brussels Airlines also from April 1, this year, will also have a female CEO Christina Foerster who will be the first ever woman to head a Lufthansa Group airline.

In Europe, Brussels Airlines and all other Lufthansa Group airlines (Austrian, SWISS, Eurowings and Lufthansa) operate all-women crew flights to Berlin, one of the busiest connections in the company’s network.

Brussels Airlines flight SN2579 will be led by Captain Sofie and First Officer Marie-Aude. Purser Liesbeth will take care of the service in the cabin together with cabin crew members Kaya and Gillie.
