A four-day organisational development (OD) clinic, aimed at grooming leaders with innovative skills for effective performance, has been held at the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Fiapre, in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The OD training, ‘Mastery in Organizational Development and Appreciative Leadership’ (ODCP), was a collaborative effort between the College of Community and Organisational Development (CCOD), Sunyani and CUCG, under the auspices of the Institute of Organisational Development (IOD), USA.

Addressing the closing ceremony, the Lead Facilitator, Dr. Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, underscored the importance of OD as a behavioural science and transformational tool for leadership and organisations to achieve effective performance through innovation. He said OD has over the last 70 years been proven in developed economies like the USA and UK, hence the need for transitional countries such as Ghana to embrace the concept.

“The OD approach is best for public and private sectors development, as well as raising innovative entrepreneurs to fast-track national development.  This is a therapeutic way of transforming people to achieve desirable results. We are bringing an excellence centre to heal and transform people and organisations,” he said.

The Vice Chancellor of Catholic University, Prof. Daniels Obeng-Ofori, advised participants to apply the acquired OD knowledge in their endeavours so as to effect the needed change to transform organisations and increase productivity. He emphasised that OD-training has become critical to stimulating business revolution. “Academically, if you have knowledge and you apply it to the benefit of society, it makes you a wise person.”

The participants expressed their gratitude for the knowledge acquired within the four days. They described the training as insightful, educative, and inspiring. They claimed to have acquired skills for diagnosing daily challenges bedevilling organisations and to propose amicable solutions.

The partnership training course was the second in a series, since it started in July 2017. The third edition is expected to come off around July this year. Other collaborative programmes are Organisational Development Certified Professional (ODCP), Organizational Development Certified Consultant (ODCC), and Organisational Development Process Consulting.
