As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility agenda for the year, Ecobank Ghana, joined hands with its other subsidiary companies and numerous customers to donate blood to various blood banks across four centres in Ghana.
Dubbed “The Ecobank Blood is Life Exercise”, the event was held on Wednesday, 14th February, to coincide with this year’s Valentine’s Day. In all, the bank was able to raise over 800 pints of blood in Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Tamale. This is a marked improvement over some 500 pints donated in 2017 in a similar blood donation drive.
Speaking to donors at the Accra centre, the Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Dan Sackey indicated that blood shortage in our blood banks is a social issue that should be of interest to every Ghanaian.
He therefore encouraged employees and customers of Ecobank to become regular donors, by committing themselves to donating blood at least once yearly. Mr. Sackey also called on other corporate organisations to consciously channel their energies and other resources towards equipping blood banks in the various hospitals across the country.
The Regional Head of Marketing and Communication for EGH and AWA, Lady Rev. Patricia Sappor, mentioned that issues that bother on health should take prominence in the focus of every institution because it has a direct correlation to productivity and therefore, national development.
The three subsidiary companies that participated in this exercise were; Ecobank Development Corporation (EDC), eProcess and the Pan African Savings and Loans Company. The staff and customers who participated in this exercise were overly happy about getting the opportunity to help save lives, through blood donation, on such a special day.
