The Dubai International Chamber of Commerce, Ghana Office, is in an association of business operators with interests spanning all sectors of private enterprise, and is organising a 7-day investment promotion mission to Dubai.
The objective of the trade mission is to directly attract foreign investments, and also provide new opportunities for member-firms to discover new markets by presenting their products and looking for distributors, among other commercial collaborations.
The trip, which is being organised in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), comes at a time when government is rekindling the enthusiasm of private sector players to enable them play their roles as engines of growth for the ailing economy.
The Head of the Ghana Office of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, Cyril Darkwa who briefed the B&FT ahead of the trip, described the trip as most important and timely for members of the chamber and other business operators.
“The Chamber has the objective of promoting industrial and commercial interests in Ghana, and strengthening trade and investment relations between Ghana and Dubai,” he said.
The mission, he indicated, will consist of Business to Business (B2B) meetings between participating business operators from the following business sectors: automobile/auto parts; food and beverages; machines & equipment; agricultural machines & inputs; IT & electronics; building and construction materials; plastics, organic chemicals; optical, technical and medical apparatus; and clothing, among others.
“The Mission will consist of Business to Business (B2B) meetings between participating companies, Company and Factory Visitation, Participation in a Trade Fair/ Buyer-Seller meeting,” he said, adding that “the trip has been made affordable at a package and fee of US$2,000 per head, and includes visa, ground transportation, air-fare and hotel accommodation – with a side attraction of a safari tour ride to the desert area.”
Mr. Darkwa expressed the hope that Ghanaian businesses which need some level of investment and collaboration will take advantage of the opportunity to revitalise their businesses.
The chamber is hoping to embark on this trade mission with a 35-member delegation that will be led by Mr. Yofi Grant, CEO of the GIPC.
The delegation will also have an opportunity to attend the 4th Global Business Forum on Africa in Dubai to be held over two days, 1st-2nd November 2017.
Mr. Grant, also speaking ahead of the mission, reiterated government’s focus on a Ghana built by Ghanaians for Ghanaians, with mutually beneficial partnerships.
He also stated that Ghanaian enterprise must be supported to truly take the commanding heights of the economy, with a bigger focus on value addition and production, for Ghana to become the business hub of West Africa.
