HCCGH supports green Ghana initiative

…. Plants over 200 seedlings

The Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana (HCCGH), as part of their Community project and also promoting the Green Ghana Initiative has begun planting over 200 seedlings along the Legon- Madina road in Accra.

This initiative forms part of their contribution to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, and also create awareness on climate change.

According to the Dean of the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana, Mr. Dimitri Avraam, HCCGH’s 200 seedlings plantation is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards the community.

“We feel that it is one of our Corporate Social Responsibility to participate in this event, following also the real interest of government to see that Accra is one of the cleanest cities in Africa” he stated.

He added that the current 200 seedlings that is being planted was provided by the Forestry Commission of Ghana which is called Milletia Thonningii. He said HCCGH is ready to support the agenda of tree planting whenever any group call on them.

He said HCCGH will do a similar activity in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

Mr. Avraam further stated that the tree planting is not the only project that HCCGH has embarked on.

He disclosed that the organisationbut have supported frontline security staff with PPEs as part of the fight against COVID-19 and others.

“In the recent past we have supported the frontline security forces with PPEs. We were one of the first organizations that did contribute in the beginning of the Pandemic last year in April and we also supported the Social Centre with books in the Volta region” he said.

Advising the general public on the need to tackle environmental issues as personal problems, Avraam said, it is of great importance that certain actions that cause depletion of forest must be avoided.

“It is important that we protect our environment and certainly the event today is to contribute to enough green and to educate the population that it is important we preserve our forest because forests are very important to our lives” Mr. Avraam advised.

The Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana (HCCGH) was founded in 1994. HCCGH represents five continents which is Europe, America, Asia, Africa and New Zealand. HCCGH currently has 40 members. The current Dean is Mr. Dimitri Avraam, Hon Consul of Belgium.
