The latest statistics from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) puts the total samples of persons tested so far for the coronavirus (COVID-19) to 60, 916 with the 834 samples representing 1.37 percent testing positive.

As of 1 PM today, April 18, Ghana’s recorded cases of positive tests have jumped to 834 from 641 on April 16, according to GHS. The number of deaths has also increased to 9 from the earlier reported 8, with the number of recoveries also increasing to 99.

However, the GHS said the new results do not represent new infections that are occurring. “It represents results from tests of a backlog of samples.”

Ghana is believed to be the second country in Africa to have conducted the highest number of tests after South Africa which has recorded about 2,783 positive cases.
