Co-Founder of Glovo, a global on-demand courier service, Sacha Michaud has paid a two-day working visit to Glovo Ghana to discuss plans for further expansion in the country and accelerating SME digitalisation and growth.

Speaking at a brief press conference, Mr. Michaud said: “Ghana is a very exciting market and we are elated to have a footprint in Accra and Tema. In Ghana, over 98% of our partners are SMEs. This is to enable them deliver their goods within 30 minutes.

“We are also glad that government believes in digitalisation of SMEs, and we are poised to help accelerate this agenda by working with our local partners to market and deliver their goods to customers through our multi-category app to meet the rising demand for online shopping and deliveries in Ghana.

“Again, we are a company that is part of the ecosystem. We not only focus on the business bit, but we also work with our couriers and local partners closely. We are part of the cities where we operate. Globally, we are very city-focused and determined to double-down on our efforts to give everyone easy access to anything in Ghana.”

Mr. Michaud also commended the local team for their immense contribution toward the growth of Glovo in Ghana within the short period of its existence in the country.

“Since March, the local team has done an incredible job of growing Glovo in Ghana. In Accra, we have one of the largest delivery operations covering, with great feedback from our customers and vendors. I commend the local team for the excellent job.”

To understand the Ghana market and improve on its services, Mr. Michaud joined the Glovo couriers to make some deliveries on a bicycle; an added means of delivery to the Glovo service in Ghana to interact with customers, learn what doesn’t work and what works on the field.

On her part, General Manager for Glovo Ghana, Pearlyn Budu, revealed that operations will commence in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region capital, in November, 2021.

“As part of the expansion in Ghana, we are ready to launch operations in the Ashanti Region starting from Kumasi by next month. This expansion will allow us to continue providing the fastest and most convenient service to other regions outside Accra as well. We also want to provide adequate opportunities for individuals and suppliers in Ghana to expand their businesses. We are looking to a long-term future in Ghana.”

Glovo is a leading multi-category delivery service that allows customers to buy, collect and send any product within the city in around thirty minutes or less. Glovo connects users with local stores and couriers, making it all possible through a simple, user-friendly app.
