The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA), the trade association for all insurance companies licensed to operate in Ghana will join the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s “International Insurance Awareness Day” from Monday June 28.
In line with this celebration, GIA intends to organize a webinar on the theme “The Carnage and Indiscipline on our Roads must Stop – Every Life Matters.” GIA has therefore organized speakers to deliberate on this theme.
The speakers are; Imane Quaadii – Moroccan Ambassador in Ghana, Ms. Mabel Sagoe – Director of Transport, Ministry of Transport, Superintendent of Police Alexander Kwaku Obeng – Director, Education, Research and Training (MTTD), Dr. Justice Yaw Ofori – Commissioner of Insurance, Engineer David Osafo Adonteng – Director, Planning and Programmes, National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and Ms. Aretha Duku – President, Ghana Insurers Association.
The Chief Executive Officer of GIA, Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson has therefore appealed to its members to register on the link www.webinar.ghanainsurers.org.gh. He also assured members that register, a confirmation e-mail on information about joining the meeting.
It will be recalled that barely three week ago, the GIA secretariat published an article in the B&FT titled “Carnage on our road must stop Every Life Matters.” According to the National Road Safety Authority – Road crushes in Ghana statistics for 2019 showed that there were 10, 808 crushes and 2,073 fatalities deaths in 2019.
This is an increase of 9.8% and 2.6% in crushes and fatalities respectively over that of 2018. Unfortunately, the road user class with the highest number of deaths and severe injuries continues to be pedestrians, accounting for 36.7% followed by motor cycles 28% and then bus occupants 14.4%. pedestrian’s death for 2019 increased by 11.7% over that of 2018.
