The Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult (AFESC), the research and consulting arm of the Jospong Group of Companies, and the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) at Mampong and Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on research, planned activities and projects to help bridge the gap between industry and academia.
The partnership also aims to train people in modules relevant for building technical and entrepreneurial skills, and build expertise relevant to ensuring the sustainability of various initiatives by the Jospong Group of Companies and members of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA).
The MoU was signed when officials of the Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult paid a courtesy call on the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development to inform AfESC on possible areas for collaboration between the two institutions.
In his welcome statement, the Vice-Chancellor of AAMUSTED, Prof. Frederick K. Sarfo, expressed his immense gratitude to AfES Consult for honouring his invitation, and intimated that the university has set out to look for ways of incorporating industry experience and academia – and thus he is excited to have AfES Consult on board.
The delegation from the AfESC led by the Managing Director, Dr. Abena Asomaning Antwi, expressed their excitement about the advanced technical skills being developed at AAMUSTED, adding that such expertise will be vital in ensuring the sustainability of various initiatives by the Jospong Group of Companies and members of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) at large.
She also expressed enthusiasm for the many areas of partnership with the university, especially with regard to assembling and repairs of the tricycles used for solid-waste collection.
The delegation from AfES Consult was made up of Dr. Abena Asomaning Antwi (Managing Director); Dr. Glenn Gyimah (Head of Engineering); and Dr. Kofi Sekyere Boateng (Head of Training and Policy).
The institutions look forward to incorporating industry experience from AfES Consult’s staff into the training modules for relevant technical skills and entrepreneurship.
