The Ghana Garden and Flower Movement (GGFM), an initiative to create awareness among Ghanaians about the commercial, aesthetic and health benefits of horticulture and floriculture, has launched the ninth edition of the show.

The main event, which is aimed at bringing together stakeholders in the flowers and gardens sector to showcase the countries potential in that industry, is however slated for August 25-29, 2021, at the Efua Sunderland Children’s park.

According to the organizers, Strategic Communications Africa Ltd, (Stratcomm Africa) and partners, the reasons for this initiative was to promote among others a culture of environmental awareness and friendliness, contribute to the creation of employment opportunities in the horticulture and floriculture industry, promote gardening as a source of healthy relaxation and fun, showcase Ghana’s flora and fauna to the world and instill a sense of pride among Ghanaians.

“Over the past years, this flagship show has successfully driven this agenda of promoting a greener, cleaner, healthier, wealthier and more beautiful Ghana, via its themes such us sustainable gardening in Ghana, gardening for value: health, beauty, jobs and income.

The world is your garden, dream it, discover it, live it, flower Ghana, grow Ghana, enriching Ghana; a garden at a time, be the change and live the change, all geared towards inspiring various participants of the show, since its inception to take the Ghana Garden and Flower Show home with them and to cause positive impact wherever they find themselves,” Advisory Board Member, Bernard Nana Tuffour said.

The show has also seen several success stories pouring in from some participants who are now CEOs of their own businesses in the floriculture and horticulture industry through their participation in the Show over the years. This has created a boost in the economy as more jobs have been established.

Head of Communications, Stanbic Bank, Mawuko Afadzinu, speaking at a launch event, stated that Stanbic Bank is a proud partner of the Garden and Flower Movement, and it is fulfilling to see the far-reaching effects of the show even in the midst of a global pandemic.

“In a time like this, it has become even more important to focus on preserving our environment. It is no mere coincidence that we celebrated the World Environment Day recently. Plants and flowers form a great part of our environment. When we plant more, we grow more. The environment is all we have, and it is our duty to preserve it, that is why this show stays relevant.

I ask, when we lose the earth where do we go? Accra stands the chance to become one of the cleanest cities in Ghana and the world as a whole. Trust me this goal is achievable. This is why I congratulate the movement, exhibitors and participants for remaining passionate about green living,” he said.

He tasked all citizenry to grow this community, promoting a greener, cleaner, healthier, wealthier and more beautiful Ghana.
