The Women Intelligentsia for Service and Excellence (WISE) Network has donated an assortment of items to the Beulah CHPS Compound at Dzen Ayor, a suburb of the Ogbojo Electoral Area-Madina, Accra.
The donated items comprised Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as disposable hand towels, sanitiser, thermometer guns; gallons of handwashing liquid, and other sanitary items required for safe health care delivery.
The president of WISE Network Ghana Chapter, Dr. Genevieve Duncan-Obuobi, pledged continued support from the Women’s fraternity toward enhancing health care delivery in the suburb.
“Health care delivery at the community level is a shared responsibility. This is our widow’s mite toward complementing government’s effort at bringing safe maternal health care closer to the people who need it most.
“The vision of reducing the national maternal mortal ratio requires a collective effort from all quarters, and we would like to reach out to well-meaning individuals, NGOs and corporate bodies to partner with us to provide a bigger and ultra-modern health facility, especially for the benefit of pregnant and nursing mothers in Dzen Ayor,” she said.
She made her remarks in a brief ceremony to present the items, witnessed by staff of the health facility, community leaders of Dzen Ayor and some members of the WISE Network.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Beulah CHPS Compound, Gladys Addo Osei – Assembly member of Ogbojo Electoral Area, expressed her sincerest gratitude for the kind gesture shown by the WISE Network.
Chronicling strides the suburb has made with regard to the CHPS Initiative, the Assembly member said: “The community nurses at Dzen Ayor used to sit under a tree to operate during ante-natal and post-natal visits, leaving both nurses and clients at the mercy of natural elements – sun or rain”.
She added that she was approached by management of the facility on how best to address the issues, and together they brainstormed on what could be done aside from government’s intervention. And out of that deliberation came support from a UK -based NGO, to construct a mini metal structure to cater for primary and maternal health needs of the Dzen Ayor community.
Dzen Ayor is one of the seven (7) cluster suburbs constituting the Ogbojo Electoral Area in Accra, falling under the Adenta Municipal District.
Officially launched on 21st May, 2020, the WISE Network Ghana Chapter is a community of women from diverse disciplines with a leadership mindset geared toward developing themselves and sharing knowledge to impact others.
