Drivers of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, a leading company in sales of heavy and light duty trucks in Ghana, have undergone a day’s training.
Officers of the Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service took over 50 drivers through personal responsibility, causes of accidents, defensive driving techniques, rules and regulations on the road, and create awareness on drugs and alcohol.
DSP Paul Amoah, Tema Community One MTTD Commander urged the drivers to exhibit professionalism on the road and in demonstrating professionalism, they should think safety first, and follow the rules and regulations to avoid any incident.
According to him, over 90-95% of accidents in Ghana are human factor, therefore as professionals, they should make zero tolerance of accident their target. He commended Zonda Tec Ghana Limited for the continual training of its drivers and urged other companies in the region to emulate same so together they avoid accidents in Ghana.
Nana Afua Pomaa Frimpong, Head of Human Resource and Administration told the B&FT in an interview that the training session is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and also to provide them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for vehicle safety both as a driver and a pedestrian.
“Here at Zonda we take our corporate social responsibility very seriously. As an automobile industry, 60% of our staff and clients are drivers. It is necessary for us to organise this training annually to minimize accident. Once there is an accident, it is a huge cost to the nation and to the organisation as well. This year, our target is zero accident, we do not even want to record any encounters with the police as in disrespect, indecent and indiscipline on the road,” Ms. Frimpong said.
William Dordor, Chief driver of the company commended both management of the company and the MTTD officials for the continues sensitization and pledged compliance on the road in order to achieve zero accident for the year 2021 and beyond.
