Chapel Hill Denham, a leading investment firm, is set to host a webinar on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 on the theme ‘Developing our Capital Markets for Sustainable Economic Growth’, with the express aim of deliberating on the opportunities in the capital market for driving economic growth in Ghana.

History has shown that subsequent to tragic events, there abounds opportunities for development, if proper planning and execution are applied and the case of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. The role of a robust and efficient capital market in sustained economic growth cannot be overstated yet Ghanaian capital market, with its vast potential to drive economic development, remains largely untapped.



The event will see a convergence of seasoned financial and investment banking experts as they deliberate on important actions required for significant systemic advancements in the capital market. This will be discussed in the context of a post-COVID-19 world.

The panel will be comprised of Elsie Addo Awadzi, Second Deputy Governor, Bank of Ghana; Ekow Afedzie, Managing Director, Ghana Stock Exchange; Phil Southwell – Partner & Chairman, Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund; and Williams Olowojoba, Business Head, Chapel Hill Denham Ghana.

With Diana Okine, Head, Marketing & Public Relations at the Ghana Stock Exchange; and Edmond Omane-Manu, Portfolio Manager, Chapel Hill Denham, serving as moderators and Nnenna Nwoye, Head of Corporate Services at Chapel Hill Denham Ghana, as the host.

Together they will seek to answer questions such as: how can the capital market contribute towards the goal of ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’; what is the government’s role in creating an enabling environment, and what can the private sector offer?

Other questions to be dissected include What have been the key constraints to a flourishing capital market and how can these barriers be eliminated? What are some of the gains that have accrued to the capital market in recent times and how can they be built upon? And what are some lessons that can be learnt from this Black Swan event and what measures can be put in place to ensure better resilience in future?
