A total of 23,118 Senior High School candidates from three regions – Northern, Savannah and North East – have registered to sit the 2020 West African Examination Council (WAEC) test.
Out of the number, 14,805 are from the Northern Region; 4,407 from Savannah; and the remaining 3,906 from the North East. In all, 375,737 candidates will write the exams across the country this year. This is the first batch of government’s Free Senior High School education policy to write the exam, slated to take place from July 20 to September 5, 2020.
Northern Regional Public Relations Officer for Ghana Education Service, Donald Awaala Kanzoni, in an interview with B&FT said the students have been prepared well for the exams. According to him, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the directive by government, only a few personalities will be visiting centres to ascertain the issues at hand.
He said the materials and resources for the exams have been made available to the schools. He added that invigilators and the candidates have been provided with Personal Protective Equipment to help curb spread of the virus.
