The Ghana Association of Savings and Loans Companies (GHASALC) has donated medical essentials worth GH¢50,000 to the Ga East Hospital to help in the management and treatment of patients with COVID-19 at the facility.
The medical essentials donated include a number of Omron i11 Digital BP Apparatus (with cuff and adaptor); Omron Standing BP Apparatus (with 3 cuffs, rechargeable battery and basket); Infrared Thermometers, Pulse Oximeters; Soap/Sanitiser Dispensers, Bedsheets, N-95 face masks, Disposable Surgical Face masks and Disposable Gowns. The items also include Assorted Toiletries, Tissue, gallons of Liquid Soap and 60 boxes/packs of Bottled Water.
Presenting the donations, Executive Secretary of GHASALC, Tweboah Kodua Boakye said: “The savings and loans companies and the association will continue to monitor the situation and respond accordingly where necessary. Our clients who have been negatively affected by the pandemic are encouraged to speak to their respective institutions for tailor-made support”.
Medical Superintendent for the Ga East Municipal Hospital COVID-19 Treatment Centre, Dr. Ebenezer Oduro Mensah, expressed profound gratitude for the gesture and said the medical essentials will go a long way to help their operation even post COVID-19.
“These items will help us monitor our patients easily. There are quite a lot and it takes time to go round all of them, but with the equipment we will be able to monitor them so we can pick out those whose conditions may be worsening early enough and put in the necessary intervention before it is too late,” he said.
Dr. Oduro Mensah added that the disinfection items that were added to the donation will help health workers to stay away from the infection and also help patients keep to good health practices.
In all, 25 savings and loans companies operating in Ghana serving over 6 million clients throughout over 540 branch networks across all the 16 regions contributed funds toward the donation.
