The Ghana Cooperative Credit Unions Association (CUA) has donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other items to the Adabraka Polyclinic Isolation Centre to support the fight against COVID-19.

The donation activity took place at the Isolation Centre of the Adabraka polyclinic, and forms part of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at protecting the frontline health workers in the fight against coronavirus from getting infected.

Items presented to the Polyclinic included: 15 Veronica Buckets, 750 pieces of hand sanitisers, 30 gallons of handwashing liquid soap, 20 packets of nose masks, 50 packets of disposable gloves and seven packets of tissue.

Director of Adabraka Polyclinic, Dr. Q. Abdul Razak who received the items on behalf of the Centre, commended the Association for considering the wellbeing of frontline health workers risking their life at the Isolation Centre, and coming to their aid with such important items that will go a long way to protect them from getting infected with the virus as they continue to fight for the safety of every Ghanaian.

“The Adabraka Isolation Centre is a holding area for suspected cases and is a 20-bed capacity centre with three patients on admission currently; but all are suspected cases. So, these people have the symptoms and therefore we isolate them in the holding area, take their samples for tests then act upon the results.

“Our use of the various PPE has increased and government is doing what it can, but this donation will go a long way to support our work as we wait for what government will bring,” he said.

General Manager-CUA, Emmanuel Coffie, in his address at the presentation indicated that the board and management of Ghana Cooperative Credit Unions Association, on behalf of all Cooperative Credit Unions in the country, deems it fit as part of its service to members and social goals to get involved in the fight against this deadly COVID-19 pandemic that is an impediment to development, in order to get the nation back on track to economic resilience.

“This donation is to support efforts taken by government and offer our support to frontline health workers who are at the forefront of the fight against this pandemic during these trying times, after the recent unveilling of the new Isolation Centre toward the fight against COVID-19,” he stated.

Mr. Coffie took the opportunity to urge the general public and members of CUA to adhere strictly to the safety protocols such as wearing face masks, washing of hands regularly and social distancing, among others put forth by government and related authorities in the fight against COVID-19.

Also present at the presentation were Board and Management Members, as well as heads of various Credit Unions across the country.
