GTA supports hospitality companies in the fight against COVID-19

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), as part of the efforts to fight the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across the country has distributed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to companies in the hospitality sector.

The items included boxes of hand sanitizers and nose masks, veronica buckets, liquid soaps and packs of tissues to be distributed to the hoteliers, lodges and catering services to be placed at their premises to ensure all adhere to the directives to curb the spread of the virus.

The Northern Regional Marketing Manager of GTA, Kennis Ateere, who disclosed this to the B&FT noted that with the outbreak of the pandemic, there is the need to solicit for support to help fight the spread of the disease. According to him, the rural areas are more at risk of contracting the disease.



Mr. Ateere expressed worry about the lay-off of some workers due to the pandemic, saying it would bring burden unto the family as their sources of livelihoods have been taken away from them. He expressed the hope that the disease would go quickly to see a revamping of the sector to sustain economic activities.

He noted that the GTA would also ensure promotion of domestic tourism in the region to attract more tourists and investors to harness on the potentials of the industries to create more jobs to the indigenes. He entreated everyone to observe the protocols by using the hand sanitizers, wearing of face masks and above all staying at home unless it was absolutely necessary to go out.

Ayisha Nantogmah of Shalom Catholic Guest House at Yendi, a beneficiary, thanked GTA for their support and active involvement in the fight against the spread of the disease and assured of using the PPE for its purpose.
